“I have celiac and visited with my husband and son who are not. We all enjoyed the bubble waffles, soy ice cream & donuts ALOT! You would never know the ice cream was dairy-free with how creamy it was & the flavors were outstanding. Worth the taxi ride for sure!”

“This is not your typical western bland soy flavored ice-cream. This place takes it to another level! Coupled with the crispy made-to-order waffle and a complimentary tray of toppings to try, I felt I was in heaven.”

“I dare you to find an item on the menu that's not absolutely delicious! SoyStories allows people with allergies and special diets to experience sweet treats. It was such a pleasure being able to get vegan desserts after a late dinner.”

Dominik JersabeckGoogle Maps

“Waffles were very crunchy and not too sweet. Highlights for me was the matcha ice cream and the custom toppings tray (I recommend the brown sugar syrup!). We also had a lemon donut which was moist and delicious with an almond flour batter.”

“You can't even tell the ice cream is made of soy milk—it is delicious and the waffles are to die for. I had the matcha ice cream with waffle twice during my stay, couldn’t stop myself! Very friendly owner and peaceful ambience.”

“I had the waffle with whipped cream while my partner had the large waffle with soft serve. They brought out toppings and a menu in English. We came back a second time and got cake donuts for our hotel. Reasonably priced, lovely staff!”

“I'm not on a gluten-free or vegan diet, but I really enjoyed the desserts I tried. Between myself and my parents, we tried the black sesame, strawberry, and chocolate bubble waffles. Very flavorful and creamy. Highly recommended for everyone!”

“This ice cream is SOOOOO good. We are 13-year vegans from the USA and honestly, the matcha ice cream was probably my favorite vegan ice cream ever! I will be dreaming of this place when I go back home.”

“Their cake donuts are the best donuts I've ever had in my life, vegan or otherwise. Perfectly dense, moist, and sweet.”

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know before visiting

1. Are all products 100% vegan (plant-based)?

Yes. Every single sweet and drink at SoyStories Yakuin is 100% plant-based (vegan). We never use meat, fish, dairy, eggs, honey, or gelatin in any product.

2. What is your gluten-free policy? Can guests with celiac disease or wheat allergies eat here?

All of our products are made with 100% gluten-free rice flour or almond flour, and wheat, dairy, and eggs are never brought into our kitchen (including staff personal food for wheat). However, because we handle soybeans, almonds, sesame, Japanese yam, apples, peaches, and oranges in the same kitchen, complete elimination of trace allergens cannot be guaranteed. Guests with severe allergies or celiac disease are encouraged to review per-item ingredients and consult our staff before ordering.

3. How can I check per-item ingredients and allergens?

You can use the interactive Allergen Checker and the Complete 26-Item Menu Table on this page, check the allergen badges on each menu category page, or view our Official FoodHug Allergy Disclosure Page. You can also ask our counter staff directly.

4. Do your products contain soy, tree nuts (almonds/cashews), sesame, or Japanese yam?

It depends on the product:
• Soybeans: Used in Bubble Waffles, Soy Soft Serve, Soy Whip, Baked Soy Donuts, and 4 Gelato flavors. Soy-free options include all 6 Glazed Cake Donuts (¥430) and 4 Fruit Gelato flavors (Berry Mix, Juicy Dragon Fruit, Refreshing Apple, Too Juicy Peach).
• Almonds (Tree Nuts): Used in Glazed Cake Donuts (¥430), Melting Chocolate Gelato, and the optional Okara Cookie topping. (Note: Certain seasonal/delivery items like vegan tiramisu may use cashew paste.)
• Sesame: Used in the Black Sesame Bubble Waffle and Black Sesame Soy Donut.
• Japanese Yam (Yamaimo): Used in the 6 Baked Soy Donuts (¥330) for chewiness.

5. Do you use white sugar? Are your sweets “sugar-free”?

We use no refined white sugar. Instead, our sweets are gently sweetened with beet sugar, organic agave/maple, or natural plant sweeteners depending on the item. Please note that this means they are free from refined white sugar, not zero-sugar / sugar-free.

6. What are your opening hours, last order time, and holidays?

We are open daily from 11:00 AM to 10:00 PM (22:00), with Last Order at 9:45 PM (21:45) and no regular holidays. Any temporary hour changes or special holidays are announced on Instagram (@soystories_yakuin).

7. Can items sell out? Can I pre-order or hold items?

Bubble waffles and soy soft serve are prepared fresh until last order (9:45 PM), though specific donut or gelato flavors can sell out later in the evening. To reserve specific flavors or gift boxes, send us a DM on Instagram (@soystories_yakuin).

8. How many dine-in seats do you have? Can I bring a stroller or suitcase?

We have a compact dine-in space with 4 main seats plus wooden cube stools. Strollers and suitcases are welcome inside, there is no minimum order per person, and sharing items is welcome.

9. Which items are best for takeaway, and how long can I carry them?

• Bubble Waffles & Soy Soft Serve: Available for takeaway, but because warm waffles melt soft serve quickly, we strongly recommend eating them immediately in-store or right outside.
• Glazed Cake Donuts (¥430): Keep for about 1 week at room temperature — our best choice for hotel snacks, bullet trains, and gifts.
• Baked Soy Donuts (¥330): Sold frozen (or warmed in-store). If carried at room temperature, they thaw naturally; keep refrigerated and enjoy within 3 days.
• Cup Craft Gelato (¥490): Sold frozen; cooler bags with ice packs are available (free when buying 4 or more items).

10. How do I eat or reheat the frozen Baked Soy Donuts?

If you want to eat a Baked Soy Donut right away, ask our staff to warm it up in-store! If taking it back to your hotel or home, heat it in a 600W microwave for about 1 minute (or toast lightly after thawing) for a freshly baked mochi-chewy texture.

11. What payment methods do you accept?

We accept Cash (JPY), major credit cards (Visa, Mastercard, JCB, American Express, Diners Club), Japanese transit IC cards (Suica, PASMO, ICOCA, SUGOCA, nimoca, Hayakaken), iD, QUICPay, and PayPay. All menu prices include tax.

12. How do I get there from Yakuin-odori, Tenjin, or Hakata Station?

Take the Fukuoka City Subway Nanakuma Line to Yakuin-odori Station (薬院大通駅), take Exit 2, and walk 2–3 minutes (~160m) toward Yakuin Mutsukado. It is only ~4 minutes by subway from Tenjin-minami Station and ~9 minutes from Hakata Station. Look for our 1st-floor storefront with the glowing soft-serve sign.

13. Is there an English/Korean/Chinese menu? What if I don't speak Japanese?

We have printed English, Korean, and Traditional Chinese menus at the counter. Even if staff on shift speak basic English, you can tap the “Show staff” button on any item on this website to display a clear Japanese ordering card (with Eat-In / Takeout toggle) on your phone screen.
